What is tooth whitening?

Tooth whitening can be a very effective way of lightening the natural colour of your teeth without removing any of the tooth surface. It cannot make a complete colour change, but it may lighten the existing shade.

 

Is Teeth Whitening Permanent?

Like other cosmetic treatment teeth whitening isn’t permanent. It can last from a few months to  years – it depends on from person to person food habit. The whitening effect won’t last as long if you smoke or drink red wine, tea or coffee, which can all stain your teeth.

Is Teeth bleaching technique Safe for Teeth?

The home bleaching technique, introduced by Haywood and Heyman in 1989. Bleaching treatment is an effective method for restoring the color of discolored vital teeth. Though some problem arises due to low quality material and doctor’s skill, you may experience some side effects from treatments like hypersensitivity. But it will diminish with time.

 

How to avoid discoloration on teeth?

  1. Consider drinking coffee and other dark beverages (such as teas and colas) with a straw
  2. Whenever possible, brush the teeth immediately after drinking coffee.
  3. If unable to brush, patients should drink water or rinse the mouth with water after they have finished a cup of coffee.
  4. Practice good oral hygiene habits, which should include biannual dental exams and cleanings.
  5. Schedule maintenance teeth whitening treatments as needed.
